The Kittilä mine of Agnico Eagle is located in the Lapland region of northern Finland 150 km north from Rovaniemi. It is the largest primary gold producer in Europe with current gold reserves containing 4.4. million ounces (28 million tonnes at 4.8 g/t). Kittilä poured its first gold on January 14, 2009. The 4,000-tonne/day operation is expected to produce about 200,000 ounces of gold in 2016, and to average 195,000 ounces of gold annually from 2017 through 2018. The ore body is open at depth to the north and continues to grow.

Boliden Kevitsa is located 160 kilometres north of Rovaniemi in Sodankylä municipality. Kevitsa is a nickel sulphide deposits with important copper and platinum-group-metals by-product credits. Process facilities were originally designed for 5 million tonnes per annum with built in expansion capabilities. Mill feed rate 2016 was 7.4 Mt and is planned to be expanded to 9 Mtpa by 2019. Metal production 2016 was 12 000 tonnes of nickel and 21 000 tonnes of copper.
